Paige Nickel saves life of Kit the chipmunk As told to Linda Waggener On a beautiful day in the neighborhood, Paige Nickel rounded the house and saw her three cats and dog on point, circling around - what? She went to see - discovered a little chipmunk - scolded the bigger animals, then felt something zip up her body to her shoulder into her hair. (If she'd had on a skirt this would have been a different story, but thankfully she was wearing leggings and a tee shirt so there were no scratches.) The Cats - Little Sheila, Elsa and Jackson Monroe, along with the dog, Big Sheila - were left in the dust. Paige, now in full Cinderella mode, wearing the trembling chipmunk on her shoulder, went into the house and checked the fridge to get it a snack, maybe it would eat some apple. It wouldn't. About that time her husband Derek came in and said, "WHAT are you doing?! You've got a chipmunk on your back!" Learning that innocent looking little chipmunks can bite, she let her husband be right and convince her to return the newly named "Kit Nickel" to the woods. The happy ending here is that Kit was saved from being shredded by the cats and dog. And Paige's reputation - as one who always comes to the rescue of small animals in trouble - was preserved for another day. This story reminds us of John Tupman and the pigeon who stayed article.
