Basketball: LWC to wrap up nonconference schedule this week

The Lindsey Wilson men's basketball team will conclude its extended nonconference schedule this weekend with a pair of home games against Virginia Lynchburg and Clinton (SC).

Lindsey Wilson will play host to Virginia Lynchburg at 2pmCT on Thursday, before welcoming Clinton at 2pmCT on Sunday. Both games will be broadcast live on the Lindsey Wilson Sports Network.

Products of the National Christian College Athletic Association, the Dragons and the Golden Bears will be the seventh and eighth different NCCAA opponent for the Blue Raiders this season. Lindsey Wilson is already 5-1 in such contests with a positive scoring margin of 16.2 points per game.

Virginia Lynchburg last played on December 21 at UNC Greensboro and fell to the Spartans 135-57 to drop to 0-16 overall. The Dragons have allowed their opponents to crack the century mark 13 times this season. An 88-78 loss to Campbellsville (Ky.) on November 11 is the fewest points Virginia Lynchburg has given up in a game.

Freshman Jahmir Brown paces the Dragon offense with 13.7 points per outing. He also ranks atop the lineup in total assists and is second in steals and three-point field goals.

Lindsey Wilson and Virginia Lynchburg met last season in Campbellsville's Thanksgiving Classic. The Blue Raiders bested the Dragons 97-80 in just their second-ever meeting and first since 2011.

Clinton, on the other hand, is a new opponent for Lindsey Wilson. The Golden Bears are 6-5 on the year after most recently defeating Virgin Islands (USVI) 92-90.

Senior Cam Shannon leads a quartet of double-digit scorers, posting 18.7 points a game behind a 54.2 field goal percentage. Shannon adds a team-leading 3.3 assists per game and sits second for Clinton with a 6.6 rebounding average.

The Blue Raiders will enter the weekend slate after two weeks of rest, having last played on December 18 against Campbellsville-Harrodsburg. A 79-62 win over the Pioneers gave Lindsey Wilson its sixth in eight games since starting the season 1-4.

At home, the blue and white are 4-3 and are turning in 86.3 points a game while outshooting their visitors 47.8 to 44.2 percent from the floor.

Recently activated Bryce Brown is off to a strong start through two appearances. The senior was named the Mid-South Conference's men's basketball Player of the Week last Tuesday and is averaging 18.5 points and 7.0 rebounds with a .538 shooting mark.
