CPD: Injury accident on Hwy 55 N

The Columbia Police Department responded to a two-vehicle accident with injury on Thursday night, December 28, 2023, on Highway 55 North at Doc's Market just outside of the city limits.

Shalen Followell, 36, of Hodgenville, was southbound on Highway 55 on a motorcycle when a pickup truck pulling out of Doc's Market pulled into Followell's path of travel.

Followell was transported by Adair EMS to TJ Samson Columbia before later being transported again by ambulance to UK in Lexington with major injuries.


Vicki Hatcher, 56, of Columbia was taken to TJ Health Columbia by private vehicle, where she was later released. A juvenile passenger of the pickup truck was not injured. The roadway was shut down for a time as the scene was investigated and cleared.

Officer Trevor Foster is investigating the accident. He was assisted by Adair Fire Department, Adair EMS, and multiple units from Columbia Police Department, Adair Sheriff's Office, and Kentucky State Police.
