Wrestling: LWC 2-2 at NAIA Challenge Duals

The No. 15 ranked Lindsey Wilson wrestling team went 2-2 Sunday at the NAIA Challenge Duals.

The Blue Raiders defeated Bluefield (VA) and No. 17 Marian while falling to No. 7 Reinhardt and No. 12 Indiana Tech. The Blue Raiders return to action on Saturday, December 16, 2023, when they travel to Gatlinburg, TN, for the Rocky Top Duals.


Lindsey Wilson 50 - Bluefield 3
The Blue Raiders jumped out to a 17-0 lead after winning the first three bouts. Conner Diamond picked up a 17-1 tech fall at 125 pounds to begin the match. Nate Becker then recorded a pin 39 seconds into his match at 133 pounds against Ethyn Kimberlin. Bluefield forfeited 141 pounds to give Lindsey Wilson the 17-0 advantage.

Bluefield got its only points of the match at 149 pounds with Robert Ice picking up a 10-7 decision over Drake Montelongo. William George increased the Lindsey Wilson lead to 23-3 after a first-period pin over Delvin Taylor at 157 pounds.

Following a Bluefield forfeit at 165 pounds, Cory Cannan picked up a 10-1 major decision over Landon Wright at 174 pounds to give the Blue Raiders 33-3 advantage. Lindsey Wilson lead 39-3 after a forfeit at 184 pounds and Nikolas Perovic picked up a 21-6 tech fall at 197 pounds. Carlos Figueroa closed out the match with a first-period pin over Conner Hagberg.

Lindsey Wilson 32 - Marian 9
Lindsey Wilson raced out to a 24-0 lead after winning the first five bouts. Diamond picked up a 16-1 tech fall in the first period over Ty Haskins. Becker then picked up a 12-4 major decision over Anthony Hughes at 133 pounds. Marian forfeited 141 pounds to give the Blue Raiders a 15-0 lead.

Montelongo earned a 9-4 decision over Dylan McKelvey and George earned a pin in the first period over Drake Campbell to increase the Lindsey Wilson lead to 24-0. Marian then picked up decisions at 165, 174 and 184 pounds. Perovic and Christopher Griel closed out the match for the Blue Raiders with a pair of victories. Perovic won on a 19-8 tech fall while Griel picked up an 8-2 decision.

Lindsey Wilson 12 - Reinhardt 38
The Blue Raiders started with a 9-0 advantage after Diamond earned an 11-4 decision at 125 pounds and Becker recording a pin of Easton Bishop in the first period. Reinhardt would take control of the match winning the next four with three pins and a tech fall to lead 23-9.

Cannan picked the final win for Lindsey Wilson with an 8-2 decision over Wyatt Higgins. Reinhardt won the final three weight classes after a forfeit, a pin and a 4-1 SV1.

Lindsey Wilson 12 - Indiana Tech 33
Diamond earned his fourth win of the day with an 8-6 decision over Allen Calderon. Indiana Tech then went on to win the next seven weight classes. The Blue Raiders then earned wins at 197 pounds and 285 pounds. Perovic picked up a 14-2 major decision while Figueroa earned a pin over Ian Clifford.
