Phillip Wood Coffey - Delight

The late Autumn's chill makes each shiver
The still voice within calms the most livid.
Heroes are made of the young-seldom timid.
Too frequently bold, long gone before the wisdom
Of the aged thoughtfully enters the crevices of the mind.

Everlasting tales seldom retold by the nuisance of the
Ripened, repented elderly; thoughts vague about those
Often cold-breaks with friends with so much hardy laughter.
Tears for so many whose hearts have been needlessly shattered.

Calmly we retreat to the darkness of the long winter season nights,
Approaching seemingly so very quickly to the harshness of casting shadows.
Dimmer light with young hearts glistening with delight for the celebration
Of awakening quite early the morn when our dear Savior was born.
