Lanterns and Tombstones tours wrap up for season The final Lanterns and Tombstones tour of the season was held Friday evening at the historic Columbia Cemetery. The only other opportunity for walking through the cemetery with a guide this year will be the annual Silent City Tour in October. Then Lanterns and Tombstones will begin again next spring. Dave Thomas started the Friday tour off at the Triplett family plot. John F. Triplett was not so much known for business accomplishments as he was remembered for a positive attitude and good character. He was born in 1847 to Lewis and Frances Triplett. John never married and he never left home. He took good care mother and younger siblings and he was the oldest living native citizen of Columbia at his death in 1920. Historian and genealogist Mike Watson introduced grave sites of Pitmans and Ingrams and Walkers among others by the two guides. Mike's last stop was at the Walker family plot as it was getting dark, around 7:30pmCT.
