Cyrus/ Gradyville news, December 10, 1941 The announcement of the Gradyville Get-Together on Sunday, December 11, inspired your humble Central Ohio Bureau Chief to bestir his winter-chilled stumps and peer with rheumy eyes into his crystal ball of the past to divine the news of that worthy place exactly 64 years ago this very day, as reported by the Bureau Chief of Greater Metropolitan Gradyville, Mrs. W.S. Baker. Gradyville community news, as reported in the December 10, 1941 Adair County News. The farmers have made good use of the tobacco seasons that have come this way it seems, as about all are through stripping and are now keeping busy hauling it to the markets. We are thankful the weed is bringing a good price this year and hope it continues throughout the season, as the farmers deserve good prices. By the way, the border-to-border screamer headline on the front page of this edition of the News was "U.S. Declares War on Japan." Submitted by CYRUS, Central Ohio Bureau Chief Editor's note: In today's world, Gradyville is still the care-about-your-neighbors town it was in the 1940's. This afternoon, Sunday, December 11, 2005, there is a event which epitomizes the concept of community, when Frances and Daril Salyers host another Gradyville Christmas Get-Together. It's gotten so big, even Santa Claus comes. Thanks Cyrus, for reminding folks of this wonderful celebration. -ED This story was posted on 2005-12-11 05:10:47
