Genealogy Class was a Success By Mike Watson The recent Saturday Session at the Adair Genealogy & History Research Center presented by the Research Center and the Adair County Genealogical Society seems to have been a great success! From noon until 2 p.m.--actually almost 3:30--on July 22, 2023, a total of 29 participants from all over the area, and Illinois, and, by transplant, from Washington state, attended this beginning genealogy class. Mike Watson and Phil Hanna presented materials and techniques of various types for all levels of experience. Handouts were available on many topics including: vital statistics--births, deaths, marriages; land records; on-line databases that facilitate family tree building; Find-A-Grave; local, regional and national newspaper searching; best practices in documentation and organizations of searches and what to do with that information when it is located. We certainly did not have enough time in the day to be as thorough as we wanted or needed to be. So, a second session will be offered on Saturday, September 22, 2023 at the same location and times. The September Session will go more in depth on some aspects of the records only touched upon in the July class. Let us know if you are interested in attending and we will make plans to accommodate 20-25 attendees.
