Genealogy meeting to feature Jane Lampton DAR Chapter

The Adair County Genealogical Society will meet in regular session on Monday, July 3, 2023 at 5pmCT at the Adair Genealogy and History Research Center, 307 Greensburg Street, Columbia, KY.

The program will be conducted by members of the Jane Lampton Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution. Everyone is invited to attend.

When the Jane Lampton Chapter of the D.A.R. began, the following was the reported in the Adair County News at that time: "LADIES ORGANIZE DAR CHAPTER IN COLUMBIA"


Miss Sallie Baker Is Chosen As Regent and Appoints Temporary Officers.

A number or people interested in the organization of a Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution for Columbia, met at the home of Miss Sallie Baker last Thursday evening to discuss plans.

Mrs. Curtis Marshall McGee, Burkesville, Vice Regent for Kentucky D.A.R., met with them and explained the regulations State and National.

Eighteen names were presented as a preliminary list of those desiring to affiliate with the organization. Temporary officers were named by Miss Sallie Baker, who was selected to serve as Regent for the chapter.

Refreshments were served by Miss Baker, who was assisted by her sister, Mrs. W. D. Jones, of Knoxville, Tenn.

Those present were: Mesdames W. J. Flowers, Ernest Flowers, A. P. White, Tom Murrell, Rollin Cundiff, Barkesdale Hamlett, G. R. Reed, Nat Walker, John D. Lowe, Jr., Sophia Hardin McBrayer; Mrs W. D. Jones, Knoxville, Tenn.; Mrs. Leslie Brake and Mrs. Curtis M. McGee, Burkesville, and Mrs Harry Myers, of Witchita, Kan.; Misses Mary Meade, Elva Goodhue, Mary Lucy Lowe, Elizabeth Flowers, and Sallie Baker.
