Chris Dickens, 44, Cumberland County, KY (1978-2023)

Chris Dickens, of Burkesville, Kentucky passed away Thursday, May 18, 2023 having attained the age of 44 years, 5 months, and 9 days.

He had a lifelong passion for guitar playing and songwriting, performing duets with his daughter Lucy and encouraging her to write songs of her own. He participated in Somerset Community College Theater & Film productions, and occasionally wrote a column covering regional arts and culture for the Cumberland County Newspaper. Chris had an array of jobs in his lifetime from river barge deckhand to over the road truck driver to substitute teacher.


Chris was born on December 10, 1978 to Carol Young Dickens and the late Roy "Doc" Dickens. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by grandparents Bonnie Dickens and Roy H. Dickens, Sr., Owsley and Lucy Young, uncle Grant Young, aunt and cousin Betty and Katy Brooks.

Survivors include: Daughter- Lucinda "Lucy" Dickens [Hannah, Chris, and Amara Lindsey]

Siblings- Jenni Dickens Page [Steven], Clif Dickens and mother Carol Dickens. Aunts and Uncles- Helen Young [Jack Rudolph], Billy Young, Fayette 'Doc' Young, Jean-Allen Young, Alicia and Denny Unger, Great Uncle- Dewey 'Kenny' Dickens, Cousins- Morgan Young [Kendall], Jared Young, Lee Young [Shreya], Tyler Young [Alyx], Carly Brashear Cox [Curtis], Sam Brashear, Jacob Brashear, Noah Young, John Rudolph, Dan Unger [Crystal], DJ Unger [Ashley], Jeff Smith, Niece- Naomi Page, Special family- Judy Watson Wise

A Celebration of life service will be conducted on, Thursday May 25, 2023 at 11amCT in the Memory Chapel of Norris - New Funeral Home with Bro. Terry Shelly officiating. Family will receive friends after 4 Wednesday, May 24, 2023 until the service hour on Saturday.
