ACSO: Collision claims the life of Adair Co. man

On Friday, May 12, 2023, Adair County 911 received a call of a two-vehicle collision with injuries on KY 61 south approximately 5 miles south of Columbia.

Upon deputies' arrival they found that two vehicles had collided head-on, and one of the two drivers was unresponsive with severe injuries.


Preliminary investigation shows that unit 1, a 2007 Kia passenger car operated by 81 year old Freddie Loy, was traveling south on KY 61 and was attempting a left hand turn onto KY 768. Unit 2, a 2020 Toyota Camry operated by 39 year old Chasity Wooten, was traveling north on KY 61 toward Columbia. Unit 1 turned into the path of unit 2, who was unable to stop or avoid the collision and struck unit 1 in the northbound lane.

The operator of unit 1, Freddie Loy, was not wearing a seatbelt. He was transported to TJ Health Columbia by Adair County EMS, where he was pronounced deceased. Adair County Deputy Coroner Preston Gaskin was notified.

The operator of unit 2, Chasity Wooten, was transported to TJ Health of Columbia by by Adair County EMS for treatment of her injuries.

Responding agencies included the Adair County Sheriff's Office, Adair County EMS, Breeding Fire Department, Kentucky State Police, and Adair County Coroner's Office

The collision is being investigated by Deputy Jason Camfield, who was assisted by Deputy Chris Tweedy. The investigation continues by the Adair County Sheriffs Office.
