Softball: LWC wraps up 2023 season in conference tournament Bowling Green, KY - At South Warren High School on Thursday, May 4, 2023, the Lindsey Wilson softball team bowed out of the Mid-South Conference tournament with a pair of close decisions to Campbellsville University and Thomas More University. The Blue Raiders were led offensively on the day by Madyson Jones and Desiree Chang with two hits apiece. Jones also knocked in a run courtesy of a couple of doubles, while Brylee Pickerell contributed an RBI, as well. Game One | Campbellsville 7, Lindsey Wilson 2 A four-run first inning by the Tigers ultimately paced them to the day-opening victory, as the home team on the scoreboard picked up six of its eight total hits from the top batters of the line-up. The Blue Raiders, on the other hand, received hitting support from five different players, including Jones, who plated the local's first run of the game in the second frame with a sacrifice fly out. Campbellsville went on to post a crooked three-piece in the bottom leg of the fourth inning to go ahead 7-1, and then in the seventh Jones went from driving in a run to becoming a run, this time off the bat of Pickerell. The small surge by Lindey Wilson was not enough to extend the game, and the Tigers held on to hand the Blue Raiders their first loss of the tournament. Three different pitchers saw the circle for Lindsey Wilson in the first game of the day. Grace Adams was the longest tenured of the three going 3.1 innings, followed by Savannah Robbins who allowed zero earned runs on two hits in two complete innings of work. Game Two | Thomas More 2, Lindsey Wilson 1 The Blue Raiders' season came to a heartbreaking end against the Saints in the nightcap. In this outing, the locals opened the scoring early when Chang led off with a single before a series of infield miscues off a bunt from Za'Kiya Sizemore gave enough time and space for Chang to move around the bags and give Lindsey Wilson a 1-0 lead. From there, the defense held strong and kept Thomas More off the scoreboard despite a couple of jams in which the Saints managed one or more of their baserunners into scoring position. Thomas More would not be denied for long, however, as a two-run fifth inning pushed them in front and gave them the one-run advantage. The Blue Raiders threatened in the top of the seventh and placed the game-tying run at third, but the Saints induced back-to-back outs to seal the result. Abigail Cruz fired five solid innings from the circle for Lindsey Wilson, striking out one while navigating around several high-pressure situations. Lindsey Wilson concludes its 2023 campaign with its 19th consecutive season of 20 or more victories. This story was posted on 2023-05-05 06:24:17
