Softball: LWC at Conference Tournament on Wednesday in BG After 81 days and countless weather delays we have, at last, reached the 2023 Mid-South Conference Softball Tournament. Lindsey Wilson enters this year's bracket as the eighth seed and will challenge Bethel University in Wednesday's Opening Round for the right to advance to the double-elimination portion of the tournament. The Blue Raiders finished the regular season with an overall record of 19-22, including a 10-12 mark in league-play. Seven of those wins over conference opponents came on the road. However, the locals did wrap up their home slate with a two-game sweep of Pikeville, extending their active win-streak to three games. During this three-game stretch, sophomore Brylee Pickerell is batting 0.667 with four hits, including three doubles. She has also scored four runs from the ninth slot in the line-up, thanks largely to the efforts of the Blue Raiders' front three, Alexis Garayzar, Za'Kiya Sizemore, and Desiree Chang. The first of the trio currently leads the team in total hits and runs batted in and is 3-for-7 with a home run and a double in the last three games. Meanwhile, Sizemore sits atop the roster with 17 extra-base hits, and Chang has recorded multiple hits in four of her last seven outings. Another grouping to keep an eye on for Lindsey Wilson is Elizabeth Funk, Brooklynn Ott, and Kelsie Bostock. The latter of three is fresh off a career-game in which she drove home five runs on two hits to help the Blue Raiders defeat Pikeville, 13-4. Over her last 13 games, Bostock is 12-for-34 with two home runs and a team-high 10 RBIs. In that same span, Funk is 13-for-35 (0.371) and has gone 12 consecutive games without committing an error at third base defensively. Ott shined the last time Lindsey Wilson and Bethel got together earlier this season. In that three-game series, she finished 5-for-9 with a double and four RBIs, and she remains the only Blue Raider yet to be retired on strikes this season. The Wildcats were led by the likes of Amber Osborne and Maria Murdaugh during the regular-season series. The duo produced six and five hits, respectively, and combined for five RBIs and four runs scored. Live video of this week's tournament will be available through the Mid-South Conference. Tickets for the games can be purchased through Hometown Ticketing. This story was posted on 2023-05-02 16:31:23
