CYRUS: Diddleism about LWC was compliment, wasn't it? The news about the soon-to-be unveiled statue of Gradyville's most famous son reminded me of something from an article in the December 16, 1942 Adair County News. Coach Diddle and his Western Teachers College varsity team blew into town on Dec. 12, 1942 and mauled the undermanned Lindsey Wilson Blue Raiders 74-14. (Lindsey had lost so many males to the US armed service, the seven Blue Raiders accounted for nearly ten percent of the entire student body. - Cyrus) Near the end of the report of this slaughter came this line: "Coach Diddle complimented the Raiders highly, stating that they played good ball to be as physically inferior as they were." - CYRUS Central Ohio Bureau Chief This story was posted on 2005-11-18 05:17:36
