Tony Jon Rush, 80, Columbia, KY (1942-2023) Tony Jon Rush of Columbia departed this life on Monday, March 27, 2023 surrounded by his family. He was 80 years old. The family has chosen cremation, and all services will be held privately. Tony Jon Rush, the son of Karol Oliver Rush and Bessie Madelyn Frantz Rush, was born July 22, 1942 in Hagerstown, MD. He was raised in Friendsville, MD, moved to Washington D.C., and joined the navy in 1962. He raised his family in Columbia, CT while working at United Technologies in East Hartford, CT as an electro-mechanical engineer. He and his wife retired to Columbia, KY nearly thirty years ago. He served his country honorably in the United States Navy having served on nuclear submarines during the Cold War and in Vietnam and was proud to be a veteran. He was a member of the VFW, The American Legion, and was an avid outdoorsman and deer hunter. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Geri Champlin Rush, having united in marriage on October 21, 1967. Other survivors include two sons: Cole Rush and wife Lori of Morrison, Oklahoma, and Mark Rush and wife Kathy of Lawrenceburg, KY. Seven grandchildren: Darian Newton (Alex), Heather Rush (Logan), Vincent Rush, Michelle Boone (Taren), Josh Day (Kelli) Jordan Day, and Cannon Benson. Two great-grandchildren: Silas and Rian, two sisters: Karolyn Jacobs, and Nancy Wilson. He was preceded in death by one sister: Robin Ashley. L.R. Petty Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
