Vietnam Veterans Day in Columbia

From Tiffany Collins

March 29 has been proclaimed as Vietnam Veterans Day in Columbia. On this date in 1973 the last combat troops were withdrawn from Vietnam. In 1974, former President Richard Nixon chose this date for the first Vietnam Veterans Day.

"We are honored to recognize our Vietnam Veterans today," said Mayor Pamela Hoots.

The proclamation reads:

  • Whereas, March 29, has been proclaimed as Vietnam Veterans Day;

  • Whereas, on this date in 1973, the last combat troops were withdrawn from Vietnam;

  • Whereas, this is the date that former President Richard Nixon chose for the first Vietnam Veterans Day in the year 1974;

  • Whereas, the City of Columbia would like to recognize all the men and women; both living and deceased; who have served our country;

  • Therefore, let us recognize March 29, 2023, as Vietnam Veterans Day in Columbia.
Pamela Hoots, Mayor
