Phillip Coffey - Bitter and Sweet

Bitter And Sweet By Phillip Coffey

He picked up his Sears and Roebuck catalog laying by
His side. It sure comes in handy; especially,
In his then held position sating in the outside latrine
Just over the hill from his home.

Began browsing through the pages using the dim light
Between the wooden slats in the door and here and there.
Still in his youth. He had never seen so many pretty pictures
In one book; sure could use one or two of those - so many
"Iron on patches" on his lowered jeans near the floor.

Well,he had almost finished his business,
So he tore off a page or maybe more.
Placed the book to its rightful position - tossing
The torn pages into the hole below as he arose
To his feet in his brogan work boots.

Guess he better mosey on back up the hill to the house.
The last few minutes had been both bitter and sweet.
