Softball: LWC hosts Shawnee State in MSC series Friday-Saturday

The Lindsey Wilson softball team returns to conference play hosting Shawnee State (Ohio) Friday-Saturday at Marilyn D. Sparks Park, Lindsey Wilson Sports Complex, 928 Russell Road, Columbia, KY.

The two-day three-game series begins on Friday with a doubleheader at 2pmCT and 4pmCT. The series wraps up with a single game on Saturday beginning at NoonCT.


Lindsey Wilson enters the weekend 8-6 after dropping a doubleheader to Midway on Wednesday. The Blue Raiders fell 9-8 in 10 innings in game one and dropped game two 2-1.

The Blue Raiders are 2-0 in the Mid-South Conference after sweeping a doubleheader on Monday against Thomas More (Ky.). Za'Kiya Sizemore is leading the way for the Blue Raiders this season as she leads the team in hitting batting .350. Sizemore is also tied for the team lead in RBIs with 12. Alexis Garayzar leads Lindsey Wilson with three home runs and has driven in 12. Garayzar's three home runs are tied for second in the conference.

In the circle, Abigail Cruz leads the way with three wins in 41-2/3 innings of work. Cruz has the second-most strikeouts on the team with 17 and has a 2.69 ERA this season. Grace Adams leads the Blue Raiders in strikeouts with 18.

This marks the conference opener for Shawnee State as they enter play with a 7-6 record. The Bears have won five of their last eight games. Kylie Ray leads Shawnee State with a .400 batting average. Emily Allphin leads the team in home runs (2) and in RBIs (12). Cassie Schaefer is fifth in the MSC with 35 strikeouts.

Last season, the Blue Raiders swept the season series against the Bears. Lindsey Wilson has won its last eight games against Shawnee State.
