James Edward Shirley, 65, Green Co., KY (1957-2023)

James Edward Shirley of Green County departed this life on Monday, February 27, 2023 at his home. He was 65 years old.

Honoring Mr. Shirley's wishes, cremation was chosen. A memorial visitation is requested from 3:30pmCT until 8pmCT on Thursday, March 2, 2023 at the Cowherd and Parrott Funeral Home, 206 S. Main St., Greensburg, KY.


James Edward Shirley of Green County, Kentucky, son of the late Robert Shirley and Nellie McIntosh Shirley, was born on Sunday, April 21, 1957 in Campbellsville, Kentucky.

He had made a profession of faith in Christ, was a self-employed building contractor, and loved to fish.

Survived by his wife of 45 years, Kathy Marie Rennirt Shirley of Green County having united in marriage on September 26, 1977.

Other survivors include three sons and two daughters-in-law: James Brandon and Bridget Shirley of Elizabethtown, Jason Allen Shirley of Columbia, and Travis Wayne and Julie Shirley of Florida; six grandchildren: Adrianne Shirley, Cameron Shirley, Dallas Perkins, Tyler Perkins, Judah Shirley, James Shirley; one great-grandchild: Emmalyn Westmoreland; eight brothers and three sisters: Buford and Nancy Shirley of Illinois, Jim and Juanita McIntosh, Elbert and Dianna Shirley, Carol and Randy Tucker all of Greensburg, Joe and Josephine Shirley of Magnolia, Mike Shirley of Greensburg, Benjamin and Peggy Shirley of Summersville, Raymond and Tracy Shirley of Falls of Rough, Willia Nelson of Magnolia, Lora McCorkel of Munfordville, and Richard Shirley of Greensburg; two special brothers-in-law: Troy Perkins and Rick Rennirt; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Mr. Shirley was also preceded in death by a sister: Margaret Reitz.

The family has asked that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to the St. Jude Children's Hospital or Hosparus of Green River, which can be made at the funeral home.
