Baseball: LWC hosts Olivet Nazarene to open 2023 homestand

The Lindsey Wilson baseball team welcomes (RV) Olivet Nazarene to Egnew Park this week to open the 2023 homestand. These two squads will face off four times with doubleheaders starting at 2pmCT on Thursday and Friday.

The Blue Raiders are 2-1 after competing in the Clash of Conferences hosted by Milligan University (TN) to start the 2023 campaign.

Lindsey Wilson opened the tournament with a thrilling 9-8 victory in seven innings over Rio Grande (Ohio). After trailing 8-5, the Blue Raiders used a strong, four-run seventh inning to take the lead. Jonathan Phipps sealed the deal on the mound, keeping Rio Grande scoreless in the bottom half of the final inning to earn the win.

Lindsey Wilson fell to (RV) Milligan 7-0 in game two, but the Blue Raiders responded with a 5-3 win over IU-South Bend on Saturday. Chance Stayton and Henry Paulino combined for four of the team's five RBI's in the game and the Blue Raiders held off a late rally by the Titans to preserve the victory.

Olivet Nazarene enters the matchup with a 1-1 record, splitting a pair in Bartlesville, Okla. last weekend. The Tigers defeated Hannibal-LaGrange (Mo.) 6-4 and fell to Oklahoma Wesleyan 15-3.

Stayton leads the Blue Raiders in hits (4), runs (3), runs batted in (3), and home runs (2). Lucas Bault leads the team in walks (3) and Cody Fallon leads the team in stolen bases (2). Phipps and Edwin Quedeza picked up wins on the mound last weekend while Cohen Achen was credited with the loss. Quedeza leads the pitching staff in innings pitched (6.0) and Achen leads the staff in strikeouts (8).

Four Tigers lead the team with two hits and three Tigers have homered. Kainoa Mane was credited with the win against Hannibal-LaGrange while Ethan Underwood was credited with the loss against Oklahoma Wesleyan. Nolan Belschner leads the Tiger pitching staff in innings pitched (4.0) and Underwood leads the staff in strikeouts (5).

Both doubleheaders are set to start at 2pmCT on Thursday and Friday at Egnew Park, Lindsey Wilson Sports Complex, 928 Russell Road, Columbia, KY.
