Blue Raider women to open 2023 with conference duo

The Lindsey Wilson women's basketball team ended 2022 on a high note last week in Florida, and now will look to carry that momentum into its first test of the new year this weekend when the Blue Raiders travel to Wilberforce University before returning home to host top-ranked Thomas More University.

The locals picked up two clutch victories at the St. Thomas University Holiday Invitational on December 29 and 30, defeating the homestanding Bobcats and Florida Memorial University.

Sophomore Lucy Patterson recorded back-to-back double-doubles for the second time this season while in the Sunshine State. She now holds the Mid-South Conference's second-highest rebounding average at 9.1 and ranks 13th in the league in both points per game (12.5) and field goal percentage (0.500).

Teammates Amelia Hodges and Maleigha Oldham each posted 16.5 points per contest during Lindsey Wilson's trip to Florida. The latter of the two is presently on the cusp of the program's top 10 in career scoring, needing 90 points to pass Lyndsay Howard for 10th all-time. Hodges, on the other hand, sits 30 points shy of cracking 500 for her career, and is averaging 15.0 points a game over her last four appearances.

The Blue Raiders begin the weekend at Wilberforce on Thursday evening (3-10, 0-9 MSC). The Bulldogs started the 2022-23 season with three consecutive wins but have since dropped 10 in-a-row.

Despite the drought, junior Kadai Greene-Tucker stands atop the conference leaderboard in scoring with a mark of 18.4 points per game. The 'Dogs' guard has five different efforts of 20 or more points so far this season, including a 32-piece versus Clinton College (S.C.) back on November 6.

Lindsey Wilson is 16-0 all-time against Wilberforce, having outscored the Bulldogs by an average of 34.1 points.

Then, on Saturday, the Blue Raiders welcome the defending NAIA National Champion, No. 1 Thomas More to Columbia. The two rivals last met almost a year ago in the Mid-South Tournament Quarterfinals where Lindsey Wilson pulled off an upset victory, 53-52. The result evened up the all-time series at four wins apiece, and the locals enter the weekend 3-1 against the Saints at home.

Senior Zoie Barth has caught fire recently with double-digit performances in seven-straight games. She actively leads the Saints with 13.1 points per game, as well as 48 total assists and 23 total steals.

Saturday's match-up will mark the fifth consecutive season in which the Blue Raiders have faced the number one ranked team in the NAIA Coaches Poll, and you can see it live on the Lindsey Wilson Sports Network at 1pmCT.
