Vehicle pursuit in Taylor and Adair results in arrest

The incident began when Campbellsville authorities notified Adair 911 around 8:40pmCT on 12-29-22 they were in a vehicle pursuit headed toward Columbia on KY55 north. They advised the operator Robert Caines had made threats to kill his wife and was possibly under influence.

Campbellsville terminated their pursuit as it entered into Adair. Approximately 3 miles north of Columbia, Adair County law enforcement met the vehicle traveling in excess of 100 mph and attempted to stop the vehicle. The vehicle fled from officers of the Adair Sheriffs Office, Columbia Police and Kentucky State Police.



The pursuit turned onto KY 206 and speeds slowed to around 70 mph. The pursuit ended around the 10 mile marker on Ky 206. The operator was taken into custody without further incident.

Deputy Chris Tweedy was the arresting officer. Tweedy lodged Robert Caines, 43, of Mercer County in the Adair County Regional Jail on charges of:

- Fleeing and evading police 1st degree

- speeding 26 mph over

- wanton endangerment 1st degree, 3 counts

- possession of controlled substances 1st degree methamphetamine

- possession of drug paraphernalia

- operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol

- reckless driving

- no insurance

Adair County Sheriffs Office is continuing the investigation.
