ACSO: Armed robbery suspect in custody

From Sheriff Josh Brockman
Adair County Sheriff's Office

The Adair County Sheriff's Office received a complaint from Adair 911 of an armed robbery at HWY206 Food Mart at 1:46pmCT on Friday, December 9, 2022.

Dispatch advised K-9 Deputy Chandler Staten that a white male had entered the store wearing a white shirt, hat and glasses. The male had a shotgun in his hands which he pointed at the clerk. He then demanded money from the cash register.

The suspect fled in a black Dodge Dakota, that was last seen on Vester Road at the time of the call. Officers from the Adair County Sheriff's Office, Columbia Police Department, and Kentucky State Police saturated the area, but were unable to locate the vehicle.

Deputy Staten was able to make a positive ID of the suspect during his investigation. A warrant for Robbery 1st degree was obtained by the Sheriff's Office for the suspect's arrest.

At around 5:10pmCT, KSP and officers with the Casey County Sheriff's Office initiated a stop on the suspect vehicle near KY 127 and KY 501 in Casey County.

Samuel Ray Burton, 24, of Adair County, was arrested by Deputy Josh Durbin on the Adair County warrant for robbery. The shotgun and stolen cash were recovered from the vehicle.

The case remains under investigation by K-9 Deputy Chandler Staten.

The Adair County Sheriff's Office would like to thank the Columbia Police Department, Kentucky State Police, the Casey County Sheriff's Office, and the Russell County Sheriff's Office for their assistance in locating and arresting Burton.
