Civil War sculpture of 1st Kentucky Cavalry dedication is Saturday, October 22

After months of work, dedication for the Civil War sculpture of the US 1st Kentucky Cavalry will be held this coming Saturday, October 22 in the Columbia City Cemetery. The sculpture will be easily visible from the intersection of Fairgrounds and Campbellsville Streets, however, driving to it requires going across town to enter the cemetery from Wall Street since the Campbellsville Street cemetery entrance is closed.

In case of rain, the 1 p.m. dedication ceremony will take place at the picnic shelter behind the Christian Church.

Following the dedication, there will be a gathering at the Columbia/Adair County Chamber of Commerce building, lower level, at 201 Burkesville Street, Columbia (across from the Methodist church).

This will give those in attendance a chance to meet descendants, including the daughter of a 1st Kentucky soldier, and have discussions with some knowledgeable Civil War historians.

It will also be a time to learn from the artist, Tim Smith, how the sculpture was created. For more information, contact Columbia/Adair County Tourism. 270-384-6020.
