Phillip Bailey, 65, Columbia, KY (1957-2022)

Phillip A. Bailey of Columbia died on Thursday, November 24, 2022 at 1:01 P.M. at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital in Somerset. He was 65 years old.

The funeral service will be held at 11amCT on Wednesday, November 30, 2022 at Grissom-Martin Funeral Home, 200 Campbellsville Street, Columbia, KY, with Bro. Steve Pescosolido officiating. Burial will follow in Haven Hill Cemetery, with Firefighter Honors.

Visitation is requested on Tuesday from 2pmCT until 6pmCT at the funeral home.


He was born August 14, 1957 in Adair County. Preceding him in death was his father, James Bailey and his first wife, Theresa McLean Bailey.

Phillip started his career in the Emergency Medical Services as an EMT with Adair County Ambulance Service. He moved to Pinellas County, Florida, where he worked in the Emergency Medical Services, spending 22 years with Largo Fire Rescue, retiring as Lieutenant. He also was an instructor at the National Fire Academy and St. Petersburg College. After retirement, he moved back to Columbia and joined the Columbia-Adair County Volunteer Fire Department and attended Trinity United Methodist Church.

Survivors include:
  • His mother - June Baker Bailey White of Columbia
  • His wife - Robin Bailey of Columbia
  • His son and daughter-in-law - Stephen and Tiffany Bailey of Land O Lakes, Florida
  • Three step-sons - Stephen, Zachary and Spencer Cooney all of Florida
  • Two grandchildren - Jacob and Dylan Bailey
  • Several other relatives and friends

Firefighters honor Phil Bailey

The Columbia Adair County Fire Department honored Unit 48 Phil Bailey who they say "will be greatly missed." He started his career in the Emergency Medical Services as an EMT with Adair County Ambulance Service. He moved to Florida and worked in the Emergency Medical Services, spending 22 years with Largo Fire Rescue, retiring as Lieutenant. After retirement, he moved back to Columbia and joined the Columbia-Adair County Volunteer Fire Department.
