Melvin Douglas Bruce, 69, Columbia, KY (1953-2022)

Melvin Douglas Bruce of Columbia passed away on Sunday, November 13, 2022, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Lexington, KY. He was 69 years old.

Funeral services will be held at 1pmCT on Thursday, November 17, 2022, at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, 210 Greensburg St., Columbia, KY, with Bro. Wes Ellis officiating. Burial will follow in the Bearwallow Cemetery.

Visitation will be on Wednesday from 4pmCT until 8pmCT, and will continue Thursday until time for the service at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home.


He was born on January 28, 1953, in Clarksville, IN to the late John Wendell and Ruby Harvey Bruce.

Mr. Bruce enjoyed kayaking, fishing and spending time with family and friends, especially his grandchildren.

Survivors include two children Melissa Ann Bruce McKalvia (Patrick) of Calhoun, GA and Josh Bruce (Bethany) of Columbia, KY; eight grandchildren Jordan, Matthew and Kaylee Ann Perkins and Mia, Keaton, Leightyn, Gwyn and Parker Bruce; two great grandchildren Cameryn and Blakleigh Perkins and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three siblings Catherine Elizabeth Polston, Wendell Lee Bruce, and John Earl Bruce.

Pallbearers will be Matthew Perkins, Jordan Perkins, Butch Polston, Jim Polston, Pat Polston, Rodney Bruce and Clint Bruce.
