Travel: A trip to the Biltmore

The Arnold family of Fairplay recently traveled to Asheville, North Carolina, and toured the famous Biltmore Estate. It consisted of 120,000 acres. The square footage of the home is around 4 acres. It took approximately 6 years for the estate to be built.

Veronica Arnold shares some photos they took at the Estate and in the area. Click headline to view more...

Veronica writes, "Mr. Vanderbilt told his landscape architect that he wanted to look in all directions and only see land he owned! Olmstead, the landscape architect clear cut the land for building then worked to establish various types of gardens and landscapes. This included a formal walled garden that has seasonal flowers planted, wildflower gardens, perennial flowers and plants, the Italian garden which is minimal and has statues, and my favorite the giant conservatory! Which has both hot house planta and cool house plants.

I was able to identify some of the tropical plants but most I was in wonder of their names and origin. But sometimes not knowing can be pleasing as well. Mystery can be fun!"
