LWC students, faculty recognized at Honors Convocation

The Lindsey Wilson College community honored the academic accomplishments of the 2021-22 school year Tuesday afternoon at the college's annual Honors Convocation.

Held in Biggers Sports Center, the event included more than four dozen departmental and college-wide awards. The top graduating senior was named, a new John B. Begley Scholar was awarded and the top professors of the year were recognized.


LWC human services and counseling senior Mahalia Cain of Williamsburg, Kentucky, received the President's Award, which is presented to the graduating senior who in the opinion of the LWC president best embodies the LWC mission.

Erik Street, a recreation, tourism and sports management sophomore of Greenville, South Carolina, and a member of the LWC cycling team, was named the returning John B. Begley Scholar, which is the college's most prestigious undergraduate scholarship.

The Black Student Union was named the top student organization by the LWC Student Government Association.

Two faculty members were honored. Instructor of Accounting Katie Curry was named Teacher of the Year by LWC Student Government Association, and Assistant Professor of English Karolyn Steffens received the Exemplary Teacher Award from The United Methodist Church Division of Higher Education.

Several student groups and academic honor societies were also recognized.

LWC's 114th commencement ceremony will be held at 10amCT on Saturday, April 30, 2022, in Parnell Family Stadium, Lindsey Wilson Sports Park, 828 Russell Road.

Mahalia Cain receives LWC President's Award

Lindsey Wilson College senior Mahalia Cain of Williamsburg, Kentucky, is presented the President's Award by LWC President William T. Luckey Jr., during the Tuesday afternoon, April 19, 2022, Honors Convocation in Biggers Sports Center. The award is given to a graduating member of the senior class who in the estimation of the LWC president personifies the LWC spirit. Cain also received the award for Outstanding Academic Achievement in Human Services and Counseling.

Tristan Roy recognized at LWC Honors Convocation

Lindsey Wilson College junior Tristan Roy of Russell Springs, Kentucky, received the Alma Jones Wade Scholarship Award by LWC President William T. Luckey Jr. during the Tuesday afternoon, April 19, 2022, Honors Convocation in Biggers Sports Center. The scholarship is one of the most prestigious awarded to an LWC undergraduate. Roy also received the Orpheus Outstanding Team Member Award.
