Tennis: LWC's Mendoza named Coach of the Year

By Kyle Jackson

Gema Mendoza of the Lindsey Wilson women's tennis team was named Mid-South Conference Coach of the Year in her first season as the women's tennis team picked up seven All Mid-South Conference awards, officials from the conference announced on Wednesday.

Darija Mladenovic, Lucia Mora, and Alexandra Parra were all named to the conference's first team while Reshma Challarapu, Anastasiia Ivanchenko, and Salome Sposetti picked up second-team honors. Parisa Rachdanone was named an All-Conference Honorable Mention. The seven all-conference honors push the program total to 84 All-MSC selections in the history of the program.

Mora picks up the fourth conference honor of her career while Parra earns her third, and Challarapu, Sposetti and Rachdanone earn their second of their careers.

Mora and Parra were a dynamic force on the court this season, going 13-2 in doubles play. They both also kept a winning record in singles play, with Mora going 16-4 and Parra at 8-5 this season. Mladenovic also kept a winning record in singles play going 15-2 while also going 10-1 with three other teammates.

Challarapu went 7-8 in singles play this season while going in 5-5 in doubles play in three different pairings. Ivanchenko did well in her first season as a Blue Raider as she went 13-2 in singles play this season and 14-3 in doubles play with four other teammates. Sposetti was sensational again this year as she went undefeated in singles play at 17-0 while going 9-5 in doubles play in three separate pairings.

10 players earned first-team honors with another 10 student-athletes earning a spot on to the second team. Six student-athletes earned Honorable Mention status as well. Conference coaches vote on the seasonal awards along with the all-conference teams. Coaches were not allowed to vote for their own players.
