Larry Burton holds annual Mule and Horse Pull Shared by Themie Shepherd The 17th annual Mule Pull gathering was held at Larry Burton's farm in Millerfield on March 5, 2022, as it always does the first Saturday March. It's for family and friends who share his passion for Mule and Horse pulling, and, Larry says, "for anybody that's hungry." There's always a hog roast. He is an award-winning champion of mule pulling. Last year alone he competed in nine states and won the Illinois State Championship. He's not sure he will travel that much in this coming year due to rising gas prices but it's a love he says he's had since childhood when he started pulling mules with his late dad, Joseph Burton. A logger by trade, Larry says he spends 3 to 5 hours with his animals at the end of every workday. He is in transition this year, changing over from mule to horse pulling, which he says is the more popular sport these days. For more information, you can find Larry in YouTube videos showing him in many competitions with over 100,000 views. This story was posted on 2022-03-22 08:06:58
