State of the City presented by Mayor Pam Hoots

Columbia Mayor Pamela Hoots gave her end-of-year State of the City address at the Columbia-Adair County Chamber of Commerce meeting Tuesday, February 8, 2022, in the Fellowship Hall at Columbia Baptist Church.

In her presentation, she covered subjects including: City Parks and Recreation, Gas Department, Economic Development, Occupational Tax 2021, City Street Department, Special Projects, ABC Numbers, City Police Department, Coronavirus State and Local Relief Funds, COVID 19 Relief Fund, Trabue Russell House, and others.

Milestone at Synergy Food Group

The first box shipped out this week from the new Synergy Food Group plant in Columbia. Craig Dean, plant manager, and Mayor Pam Hoots are joined by new employees Amber Grimes, Mason Adams, Robert Montgomery, Tara Warriner, and Ricky Smith to celebrate the moment.

More jobs on the way with Barry Durrett

Barry Durrett, owner of Durrett Test Kitchen, was welcomed to Columbia at the Chamber of Commerce meeting this week. He is the newest business, and the second food business, to be welcomed into the City of Columbia.

Durrett said he is in the preparation phase, developing the plant, now and gave Mayor Pam Hoots and Dr. Max Downey much of the credit for his choosing to locate in Adair County. His foresees adding 50 jobs over the coming months and years.

He and his wife LeAnne are from Greensburg and he is the brother of the owner of Synergy Food Group which just opened in January in the former Majestic Yacht location. The Durrett family now has businesses located on both the north and south sides of Columbia.

Nissley plant to become Durrett Test Kitchen

The former Nissley equipment business on Hwy 55 North outside of Columbia was purchased by Dr. Max and Patricia Downey and they have leased the property to Durrett Test Kitchen. Buildings are being converted to house the new food business and should be home to upwards of 50 jobs as it progresses.
