Basketball: LWC Men To Host Cumberland

The Lindsey Wilson men's basketball team looks to open 2022 with a win later today as they welcome Cumberland (TN). Tipoff is scheduled for 5pmCT, Monday, January 3, 2022 at Biggers Sports Center, 360 Spickard Drive, Columbia, KY.

The Blue Raiders (8-6, 1-5 MSC) enter the game after picking up their first conference win over rival Campbellsville University before the holiday break. Mark Edmond's game-leading 20 rebounds helped the Blue Raiders to a 90-68 win.


Junior guard Elijah Jordan continues to lead the Blue Raiders in scoring, averaging 15 points per game through 14 games while also leading the conference in shooting percentage from beyond the arc at 52.9 percent. Sophomore guard Mark Edmond continues to lead the team in rebounds per game averaging 7.9 per game, ranking him third in the conference. In addition to those two leaders, senior guard Calvin Fugett leads the team in steals per game with 1.6, ranking eighth in the conference.

As a team, Lindsey Wilson is averaging 76.5 points per game while shooting 46.7 percent overall, the fifth-best in the conference and 38.5 percent from behind the arc, the best percentage in the conference.

As for the Phoenix, (7-3, 3-3 MSC), they enter the game after seeing a three-game win streak snapped by No. 21-ranked Georgetown (Ky.) in a 68-74 loss before the holiday break. Junior forward Isaac Stephens scored a team-high 18 points while shooting nine for 10 overall for the Phoenix.

Senior guard Tavon King leads the Phoenix in scoring averaging 18.3 points per game, ranking fifth in the conference while junior forward Nassir Coleman leads the side in rebounds per game averaging 5.9. Stephens ranks fourth in the conference in shooting percentage as he leads his team shooting 64.1 percent from the floor. Sophomore guard TJ Stargell leads the Phoenix in shooting from beyond the arc at 43.5 percent ranking 10th in the conference while also ranking fourth in the conference in steals per game at 1.9.

As a team, the Phoenix are averaging 77.4 points per game while shooting 36.9 percent from beyond the arc, the third-best percentage in the conference.

This will be the 51st time these two programs have faced each other with Lindsey Wilson leading the all-time series 35-15. The last meeting resulted in a 67-85 loss for the Blue Raiders on Feb. 8, 2021.
