CPD: Scammers claim to be from Police Department

By Officer Adam Cravens, PIO
Columbia Police Department

It has been brought to our attention parties have been phoning local businesses and individuals stating they are with The Columbia Police Department and claiming to be working fraud and counterfeit cases.

These individuals have gone on to attempt to have the people that they are talking to wire or transfer money, claiming that this will clear up a court fee, fine, or bank account in error.

We will remind and assure you no officer will ask for banking and account information or state that a business and individual must transfer funds for any type of case or compliant.
