Gary L. McCoy, 64, Jamestown, KY (1957-2021)

Gary L. McCoy of Jamestown passed away on Sunday, December 19, 2021, at the Jean Waddle Care Center in Somerset. He was 64 years old.

Funeral services are scheduled for NoonCT on Wednesday, December 22, 2021, at Bernard Funeral Home, 367 N. Main St., Russell Springs, KY, with Bro. Luther Dishman officiating. Burial will follow in Ridge Crest Cemetery.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 21, 2021, from 6pmCT until 9pmCT, at Bernard Funeral Home.


Gary was born September 23, 1957, in Phelps, Kentucky, son of the late Joseph F. and Delores Gooslin McCoy. He married his sweetheart, Debbie Justice on July 12, 1974. Gary was first and foremost a steadfast "Child of God". He loved the Lord and his family with his whole heart. Gary enjoyed gardening, fishing, and hunting, but most of all, he loved his time spent with his family, laughing and worshipping the Lord.

He is survived by his wife of over 47 years, Debbie; their three sons, Dwayne (and Tennille) McCoy, of Phelps, Aaron (and Angie) McCoy, of Elizabethon, Tennessee, and Seth (and Amber), of Columbia; his brothers, Donald (and Cathy) McCoy, of Matewan, West Virginia, and Marshall McCoy, of Phelps; his sisters, Nancy McCoy (and Mike) Holt, of Ceville, Ohio, and Karen McCoy (and Kevin) Layne, of Phelps; his brother-in-law, Danny Hamilton, of Kemper; and his grandchildren, Rachael McCoy, Laken (and Eli) Pauley, Ryleigh Grace McCoy, Kezia McCoy, Eli McCoy, Nevaeh McCoy and Levi McCoy.

Along with his parents, Gary is preceded in death by his sister, Shelia McCoy Hamilton.

Active pallbearers will be Jon Miller, Caleb Dishman, Chris Burchett, Matt Burchett, Eli Pauley and Eddie Chessor. Honorary pallbearers will be Lonnie Miller, David Goad and Steve Eby, Gary Cox, and Floren Morrison
