Dorothy Nell Vanarsdale, 89, Columbia, KY (1932-2021)

Dorothy Nell (Montgomery) Vanarsdale of Columbia passed away on Wednesday, December 15, 2021 at Summit Manor Nursing Home. She was 89 years old.

Funeral services will be held at 3pmCT on Friday, December 17, 2021 at the Church of the Nazarene, 1200 Jamestown ST, Columbia, KY, with Bro. Brent Piatt, Bro. William Davenport and Bro. Bobby Withers officiating. Burial will follow in the Columbia Cemetery.

Visitation will be on Friday after 10amCT at the Church of the Nazarene in Columbia.


She was born on October 23, 1932, in Milltown, KY to the late Chatman and Belvia Coomer Montgomery. She was preceded in death by her husband Edwin Paul Vanarsdale.

Mrs. Vanarsdale was a member of the Church of the Nazarene in Columbia, KY and the Bliss Homemakers. Dorothy was a great Christian lady that loved her church and loved spending time with her family and friends.

Survivors include three sons Ronnie Vanarsdale (Sandra) of Shelbyville, KY, Joe Vanarsdale (Anita) of Columbia, KY and Doug Vanarsdale (Pam) of Columbia, KY; eleven grandchildren Miriam Gibson, Eric Vanarsdale, Logan Vanarsdale, Lukas Helm, Tonya Burton, Leighann Loy, David Coomer, Shane Coomer, Becky Christy, Anthony Darnell and Adam Darnell; a sister Phyllis Reece of Russell Springs, KY; a daughter-in-law Marsha Vanarsdale; a son-in-law Danny Darnell; several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by three children Tommy Vanarsdale, Donna Hartfield and Patricia Darnell; a grandson Mitchell Coomer and three siblings J. C. Montgomery, Flossie Hatcher and Barbara Jean Hallums.

Pallbearers will be Mrs. Vanarsdale's grandsons.
