Alice Marie Stephens, 83, Russell Springs, KY (1938-2021)

Alice Marie Stephens of Russell Springs passed away on Friday, November 12, 2021, at Fair Oaks Nursing and Rehabilitation Facility. She was 83 years old.

Funeral Services are 11amCT on Tuesday, November 16, 2021, at Bernard Funeral Home, 367 N. Main St., Russell Springs, KY, with Bro. Billy Silverman and Bro. Kelly Burton, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Parks Ridge Cemetery.

Visitation will be held on Monday, November 15, 2021, from 5pmCT until 8pmCT at Bernard Funeral Home.


Born July 7, 1938, in Jabez, Marie was the daughter of the late John Wiley and Ermine Roy Chumbley. She worked for Russell Sportswear, then at Fruit of the Loom for over 15 years. She worked at different restaurants in the Russell Springs and Jamestown areas, her last job being for Lee's Famous Recipe, in Jamestown. Marie was one of the best cooks and was great at working with her hands. She won prizes at the Russell County Fair for her works in sewing, quilting, and embroidering. Marie enjoyed canning and working in her flowers.

She was of the Pentecostal Belief and had attended Calvary Temple Church with her family for many years. Marie later attended Parks Ridge Church of God with her siblings. In most recent years, she went to 910 Full Gospel Church with her sister and niece.

Marie is survived by her sons, Gary Stephens, of Russell Springs, and Jeff (and Rhonda) Stephens, Sr., of Dunnville; her sister, Modene (and Dorman) Brockman, of Dayton, Ohio; her grandchildren, Jeffrey Stephens, Jr., Whitley Stephens, Hannah McDaniel, Lorie Hale, Tiffany Stephens, Shawn Parton and Nathan Parton; and her great-grandchildren, Ethan Stephens, Olivia McDaniel, Jordan McDaniel, Christopher McDaniel, Dakota McDaniel, Madison Hale and Mason Hale.

Along with her parents, Marie is preceded in death by her brothers, Ernest Chumbley, Arlis Chumbley and Carlus Chumbley; and her sisters, Helen Oakes, Betty Bunch, Goldie McQueary, Velna Oakes, Lorene Popplewell and Dortha Hopper.
