Columbia Mayor's Report for November, 2021

From Mayor Pam Hoots

It has been a busy month for the Street Department and the Parks and Recreation Department as we start preparation for the winter weather.

The restroom facilities at all city parks have been winterized (Little League, City Park, Roadside Park).

We have done a lot of street sweeping during the month. Numerous leaves off of street. (They also did the area around City Hall).

The basketball courts renovation at the City Park is completed; along with lighting. I urge you to go by and visit the park. In addition to the basketball courts we have added a volleyball court and new playground equipment in the last couple of years.

The gutters were cleaned-out and repaired at the City Hall.

Attended several zoom meetings on the American Rescue Plan Act. This funding is stipulated to be utilized only for specific purposes. Robert Flowers, Sharon Payne, and I met and went over the ARPA requirements this month.

We have further information on the transfer station possibility for the city. I have been in contact with the State of Kentucky reference to our next step.

We signed the agreement for the Maintenance Building on Monday, October 27.

The Parks and Recreation and the Public Works (Street) Department are already hard at work on the building and grounds.

Signing of agreements with bank, CDBG, and property owners for Majestic Yachts building on November 1 and November 2.

John Harris and I met with Bridget Lester from Danville. RE: ABC.

Gutters cleaned out at city park and at Trabue Russell House.

We have applied for the KLC grant for body cameras for the police department.

The ABC report for the month:
  • $12,996.95 regulatory fees
  • Ten compliance visits
  • About $289,000. Alcohol sold in city limits during month.
The Columbia City Gas Department will be having several other customers hooking up on gas. Several requests are in place.

Eddie Brown with KenVirons will visit gas department. He again is reviewing the possible project on Milltown Church Road. We have made application for funding for that project.
