Joseph E. Sparks, 78, Breeding, KY (1943-2021)

Joseph E. Sparks of Breeding passed away on September 7, 2021 at the Harrison Springs Health Campus in Corydon, Indiana. He was 78 years old.

A Gathering of Family and Friends will be on Friday, November 5, 2021, starting at 10amCT, with a Celebration of Joe's Life following at 11amCT at Grissom-Martin Funeral Home, 200 Campbellsville Street, Columbia, KY.


He was born August 22, 1943 to the late J.E. and Christine Sparks. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Marilyn Dudley Sparks.

He was a retired Hardin County High School Chemistry teacher and a Microbiologist for the state of Kentucky. Joe's father, J.E. Sparks, along with Frank Lancaster and others, were founding members of the Duo-County Telephone Co-Op and at the time of Joe's death, he was the oldest member of the Board of Directors. Joe was a World War II Historian, avid duck and turkey hunter, along with his friend Jimmy Nell, and past President of Kentucky League of Sportsmen.

Survivors include:
  • His Sister - Gayle Crain (Jim) of Greenville, IN
  • His Nephew - Cabe Crain (Denise) of Greenville, IN
  • A Sister-in-law - Betty Sparks of Elizabethtown, KY
  • One Niece - Julie Meadows of Elizabethtown, KY
  • Special friend and neighbor - James Murphy of Breeding
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Marilyn Dudley Sparks Scholarship Fund at Lindsey Wilson College would be appreciated and can be left at the funeral home or mailed to Lindsey Wilson College, 210 Lindsey Wilson Street, Columbia, Kentucky 42728.
