Soccer: LWC Men fall to Tennessee Southern By Christopher Webster The No. 12-ranked Lindsey Wilson men's soccer team have their eight-game win streak snapped as they fall 3-1 to Tennessee Southern Tuesday evening at Walter S. Reuling Stadium. The Blue Raiders (8-2-1, 7-1 MSC) drop their first Mid-South Conference game of the year, while Tennessee Southern (8-7, 5-4 MSC) picked up their fifth win over a conference opponent. Both sides traded shots early in the first half as seven shots were recorded in the first 20 minutes of the game. Tennessee Southern opened the scoring in the 24th minute when Manuel Otero connected a pass to Manuel Santos to take a 1-0 lead. The Blue Raiders searched for the equalizer as shots from Victor Cavalcante and Hugo Sias were off target in the 26th minute. Tennessee Southern doubled their lead in the waning moments of the first half when Mario Lopez netted the ball for his ninth goal of the season and the Firehawks entered the break with a 2-0 advantage. The start of the second half mirrored the first as both teams traded shots. Tennessee Southern grew their lead in the 65th minute when Otero drove through Lindsey Wilson's defense and placed the ball in the back of the net to take go ahead 3-0. The Blue Raiders searched for momentum and found it in the 66th minute as Cyrus Harmon drove through the Firehawk's side of the pitch and linked with Anouar Adam for his first goal of the season to cut the lead 3-1. Lindsey Wilson looked for chances to continue to chip into the lead but couldn't put shots on goal as they lose their first game in almost two months. The Blue Raiders look to return to their winning ways as they travel to face (RV) Cumberland (TN) on Sunday. Kickoff is scheduled for 2pmCT. This story was posted on 2021-10-20 06:30:37
