Volleyball: LWC set for Battle of Highway 55 on Thursday

The No. 16-ranked Lindsey Wilson volleyball team takes on Campbellsville University in Mid-South Conference action tonight, Thursday, October 7, 2021, to cap off a three-game road trip before returning home next week. First serve is set for 6pmCT in Gosser Gymnasium.


The Blue Raiders (14-3, 7-1 MSC) opened the month of October with a 3-0 sweep of Georgetown (KY) on Tuesday. Johanna Alcantara led the way for the Blue Raiders recording a match-high 10 kills with Camryn Rich also recording 30 assists in the contest.

This season, Lindsey Wilson is hitting .273 - the seventh-best mark in the NAIA - as their 12.86 assists per set is the 12th best average. Meanwhile, Radaisy Valdez leads the NAIA in hitting percentage at .459.

Campbellsville (15-4, 6-2 MSC) comes into the match after losing in straight sets against Cumberland (Tenn.), ending a six-game win streak for the Tigers.

This season the Tigers are hitting .206 and are averaging 18.98 digs per set, the sixth-best average in the NAIA. Cierra Merrick leads the team with 2.68 kills per set while Paige Merrick leads the team in assists per set with 9.65.

Lindsey Wilson leads the all-time series with the Tigers 23-21 including a 7-8 mark on the road and has enjoyed a 19-game unbeaten run against the Tigers stretching back to the 2013 season.
