2021 Special Election information

The 2021 Special Election for State House 51st Representative District (unexpired term) will take place on Tuesday, November 2, 2021.

Deadline to register to vote in the November 2nd, 2021 Special Election
  • Deadline to register will be October 4, 2021
  • You may register by going online at elect.ky.gov
  • Alternately, you may come into the Adair County Clerk's Office, 424 Public Square, Ste 3, Columbia
  • If you have any questions you can call 270-384-2801 or email: Lisa.Greer@ky.gov

Early Voting and Election Day Locations:


The Adair County Board of Elections has submitted their plan to State Board of Elections for approval. State Board of Elections is scheduled to meet Friday, September 24, 2021. Announcement will be forthcoming next week for locations pending State Board of Elections approval.

Absentee Ballot Request
Absentee Ballot by mail can only be requested for one of the following reasons: (if you requested an absentee the last election, you will have to request one for this election, if you meet criteria). Absentee Ballot request must meet the following criteria:
  • Person who due to age, disability, or illness will be unable to go to the polls on Election Day.
  • Voter who is a resident of Kentucky who is a covered voter as defined in KRS 117A.010
  • Student who temporarily resides outside the county of his or her residence.
  • Voter who temporarily resides outside the state but is still eligible to vote in this state
  • Person who is incarcerated in jail and has been charged with a crime, but has not been convicted of the crime.
  • Person whose employment location requires him to be absent from the county all hours and all days of voting
  • For Presidential Ballot Only: Moved to another state after its registration books closed
  • Person who is a participant in the Office of the Secretary of State's address confidentiality program.

If you qualify for a ballot to be mailed, you may do so by one of the following methods:
  • Online at www.govoteky.com (deadline is October 19, 2021 at MidnightET)
  • Adair County Clerk's Office, 270-384-2801 (deadline is October 19, 2021 at 4pmCT)

The deadline to request an Absentee Ballot is October 19, 2021
If i qualify for an absentee ballot to be mailed do i have to mail my ballot back? No

Ballots may be dropped off in the ballot drop box located in The Adair County Clerks Office, during normal business hours, 424 Public Square, ste 3, Columbia KY.

The ballot drop off box will be available during normal business hours Monday through Friday from 8amCT to 4pmCT, and on Saturdays from 8amCT to 11amCT.

2021-09-22 - 51st District of Kentucky .
One candidate from each political party will be on the ballot for the unexpired term of Rep. Bam Carney who passed away recently after a long illness. The 2021 Special Election for State House 51st Representative District, Adair and Taylor Counties, will take place on Tuesday, November 2, 2021.
