Soccer: LWC Men return home to open conference play By Kyle Jackson The No. 18-ranked Lindsey Wilson men's soccer team (1-1-1, 0-0 MSC) will open Mid-South Conference play on Wednesday, September 22, 2021, when they host Shawnee State (OH) (3-1-1, 0-0 MSC) at 7pmCT in Walter S. Reuling Stadium, 151 Holloway Drive, Columbia, KY. In the previous match, the Blue Raiders picked up their first draw of the season tying 2-2 with No. 23-ranked Northwestern Ohio in double overtime. Nathaniel Onyina Opoku scored his first goal as a Blue Raider to help his team pick up the draw seconds after going down 2-1 in the second half. As for the Bears of Shawnee State, they also enter tomorrow's match after picking up their first draw of the season, tying Rio Grande (OH) 1-1 in double overtime on September 11th. Guillermo Conejo scored the game-tying goal for Shawnee State in the dying moments of the match to push the game to overtime where the Bears held on to a 1-1 scoreline. So far this season both goal scoring and assists for the Blue Raiders have been a team effort with five different players all getting on the score sheet and recording an assist. Only Alexander Koziolek, Cyrus Harmon, and Opoku have both scored and assisted a goal this season. As a team, Lindsey Wilson has scored five goals so far this season averaging 1.67 goals per game. For Shawnee State, junior forward Kevin de Lange has been in fine form scoring eight goals in five matches so far this season, leading the team's offense. Currently, de Lange sits tied for ninth for the most goals scored in the NAIA so far this season. Meanwhile, sophomore forward Joao Toledo leads the team in assists with three in five games. As a team, Shawnee State has scored 17 goals in five games so far this season, averaging 3.40 goals per game. This will be the sixteenth time these two programs have met with the first meeting taking place on August 30, 1990. Lindsey Wilson has never lost to Shawnee State in their all-time history, going 14-0-1 against the Bears. Live video and live stats will be available for the match.
