By Kyle Jackson

St. Louis, MO - The Lindsey Wilson volleyball team (9-2, 2-0 MSC) wrapped up play in the Spartan Invitational this morning, sweeping Xavier (LA) (0-4, 0-0 RRAC) in three sets. The Blue Raiders went 2-1 overall in the invitational.

Madison Bidwell and Radaisy Valdez had another high-scoring game in the Spartan Invitational as both players finished with 10 kills in the game. Camryn Rich recorded 28 assists on the morning with Lauren Larzelere and Natalie Ackermann finishing the game with 9 digs each.

The Blue Raiders opened the match strong jumping out to a 6-1 lead to begin the first set. As the set went on, the lead only got bigger with the Blue Raiders staying ahead of the Gold Nuggets by at least 10 points. Lindsey Wilson's hitting was on point throughout the set with the team hitting at an .542 with no errors.

Rich got the winning point of the set off a service dump to help the Blue Raiders win it 25-7, an 18-point spread and tied for the lowest number of points scored by an opponent this season for Lindsey Wilson.

Xavier was much improved in the second set opening the set with a 3-1 lead. Helped by eight errors from the Blue Raiders, the Gold Nuggets kept the score close at times, only allowing Lindsey Wilson a two-point lead in the middle portion of the set. The Blue Raiders found their momentum again however later in the set, pushing their lead to a five-point gap to win the set 25-20 and take a 2-0 lead into set number three.

Once again in the third set, Xavier opened a lead, this time a five-point gap ahead of the Blue Raiders. Multiple attack errors from the Gold Nuggets ruined their opening momentum allowing Lindsey Wilson to come back and tie the match at 9-9 before opening a lead of their own. Once the Blue Raiders got the lead, they kept it winning the set and match with a 10-point gap, 15-25.

Lindsey Wilson now moves onto the conference play portion of their schedule with their next match taking place on the road against Tennessee Southern in Pulaski, Tennessee on September 14th. First serve is scheduled for 6pmCT.
