Columbia-Adair County C of C INSIGHTS April 2005: President's Message:

  • Area is budding just as trees are budding
  • $74 million for roads and projects coming to Adair County
  • Slogan contest promoting area to get underway
  • Chamber banquet is April 14, 2005, at Cranmer
  • L.E.A.D. Adair Count is praised for presentation

As Springtime comes to Columbia and Adair County it is not only the beginning of a new season of the year, but a new beginning of our area. Just as the budding of the trees, shrubs and flowers happen many things are budding for our area that will mature in time. There are so many things that will help our area and our people. What are these things you may ask? Let me remind you.

The state budget bringing 74 million dollars in roads and projects to this area is worthy of celebration by everyone. Representative Russ Mobley and Senator Vernie McGaha and Gov. Ernie Fletcher have certainly remembered our area of Kentucky with these projects. A review of these projects that will help to open our area for new business and growth are: the proposed I-66 unveiling by Gov. Fletcher held Wednesday, March 23, the Columbia Bypass, Hwy. 61 South ramps and construction, money for water lines, bond issuing for a new school, Heartland Parkway final plans and the construction on Hwy. 704.

With all these buds there are other new ways that the Chamber of Commerce will begin to assist in business and development attraction to our area.

The first way this will begin is with a contest that the Chamber of Commerce will oversee that will be to select a slogan for the location, opportunity and a new positive image for Columbia.

This slogan will be open for everyone and prize money will be awarded to the winners. The final three top slogans will be voted on and the winner will be revealed and announced. This new slogan for Columbia will be used much in the same way that the Kentucky Unbridled Spirit is being used as a positive message about Kentucky. Our new slogan will be used in the promotion of tourism, Chamber of Commerce mailing, signage, etc. of Columbia. Everyone should be thinking about their entry now with a positive and upbeat message to let business, industry, tourist, and the rest of our area know that Columbia is the place to locate, do business and place to be. Much much more will be coming from the Columbia-Adair County Chamber of Commerce about this.

The Chamber of Commerce Banquet is coming up on April 14, 2005 at Lindsey Wilson College. There have been many great nominees for awards and the banquet will certainly be an excellent time to recognize our leaders in agriculture, business, education, employment and volunteering. Please mark your calendar and plan to attend.

The L.E.A.D. Adair County group gave a very interesting program at our Chamber meeting. Thanks to all of those who have made this possible and the good that will come to our area from it. Thank you is also expressed to the many Chamber members who are so faithful in attendance at our monthly meetings.

Richard Phelps, President
Columbia-Adair County Chamber of Commerce
