Celebration of 200 years coming at T-R House

The public is invited to join the City of Columbia to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the historic Trabue Russell House on Friday, September 17, 2021 from 11 to 1pmCT at the Jamestown Street home.

Visit with author/historian Mel Hankla and "Daniel Trabue" performed by Richard Phelps. Enjoy some iconic Kentucky fare.

A Brief Timeline of the Trabue-Russell House

1821 Daniel Trabue builds one-and-a-half-story brick home on bluff overlooking Columbia. It measures 20x33 feet



1827 Daniel Trabue writes his memoirs

1829 The Trabues lose the house to foreclosure

1830s A frame room is added to the right rear of the house

1840s A frame room is added to the left front of the house

1873 James Montgomery Russell buys home, and it remains in the hands of the Russell family for the next 100 years

1974 Adair Heritage Association acquires home and begins restoration

1977 The Julia Miller Horton Rose Garden is established. She was the granddaughter of James Montgomery Russell

2007 Adair County Garden Club restores the garden and grounds

2001 The City of Columbia acquires the home and garden

Trabue-Russell House anniversary event Sept 17th

200 years of history will be celebrated at the Trabue Russell House in Columbia on Friday, September 17, 2021 from 11am until 1pmCT. The T-R House was built in 1821 by Daniel Trabue on a "bluff" overlooking downtown Columbia. Author and historian Mel Hankla will be there to meet visitors and sign copies of his book. Richard Phelps will be portraying Daniel Trabue. Kentucky fare will be offered.
