Blue Raiders drop season opener to #2 William Carey

By Austin Hall

The No. 16-ranked Lindsey Wilson women's soccer team opened the 2021 campaign with a 2-0 defeat at home against No. 2 William Carey.

The Blue Raiders did well to hold William Carey scoreless in the first half after being outshot 7-0 by the Crusaders.

It didn't take long however for the visitors to score two goals into the second half. Veronica Herrera broke the deadlock in the 55th minute after putting away a header from a corner kick. The Crusaders doubled their lead in the 65th minute after Marina Sonet and Ana Paula Santos combined on the edge of the box and Santos curling an effort into the bottom right corner.

Lindsey Wilson goalkeeper Maya Caon did well on her debut for the Blue Raiders, making five saves in the match.

Lindsey Wilson looks to rebound when they travel to Indiana Wesleyan on September 7. Kickoff is scheduled for 6pmCT.
