Kylee Miller is new CU student activities director
By Matthew Taylor
Campbellsville, KY - Kylee Miller, assistant director of student activities at Campbellsville for four years, has received a promotion to director of student activities and intramurals.
Miller was employed as the assistant director since she has moved to Campbellsville when her husband, Mark Miller, was hired as the head coach for men's and women's outdoor/indoor track and field in 2017.
"When my family and I moved here, I started working as an assistant director in student activities and immediately fell in love with the role and community," Miller said.
Before their move to Campbellsville, Miller had several different types of jobs. "My husband and I met when I was a head volleyball coach at a university in South Dakota. When we moved to Oklahoma, I managed a bookstore at a university. And before we moved here, I was running a healthy marriage non-profit organization in Illinois," Miller said.
Miller is originally from Minnesota. "If you catch me after visiting my family, you might hear traces of a Northern accent."
She has a bachelor's degree in physical education, K-12 from Bethel University.
"Volunteering through our church and daughter's school and community are important to me. I recently got voted in as a member of the Campbellsville Elementary School Site Based Decision Making Committee. Considering I've only lived here a short time, I feel quite honored," Miller said. "In this stage of life, most of my accomplishments aren't something I receive plaques or certificates for but more about the growth and development of my daughter and our little family."
Miller said she is "Overwhelmed! Excited! Challenged! Honored!" as she becomes the director of student activities.
"I think the best part is the amount of support I feel. With Brandon [Lakes, assistant director of student activities] now working full time, I feel like our ability to be present and serve our students has increased."
"Before the change in our department, we were planning a make-up from last year. I do think we were able to pull off a successful year despite COVID-19 restrictions last year, but we really want to celebrate that we can be together and do things more normally this year. So right off the bat, my plan is to maintain the momentum we started during our planning months and to be an advocate for our students. I hope to be able to serve and meet their unique needs."
There are 30 events planned for just the month of August and many more to come.
"Welcome Week is back, and we're turning it up to 11," Miller said. "We're planning a tailgate festival for the first home football game. Brandon has been working hard to amp up our intramural offerings and has a few new leagues including Esports."
"Welcome Week is a great opportunity for students to get connected not only to new friends, but to the CU family and the Campbellsville community," Miller said.
Themed weeks are also making a comeback in this school year. Outdoor Week, Missions Week, Homecoming Week and Stress Buster Week are just a few that are in the making.
"During Outdoor Week, expect to see events taking outside and celebrating the outdoors and nature, and during Homecoming Week, we will celebrate traditions--like powderpuff football, the parade and crowning the Homecoming Queen--and we'll highlight home athletic competitions," Miller said.
"And I know everyone is wondering... Yes. Midnight Breakfast is back."
All student activities will be posted on the Campus Life calendar on Campbellsville University's webpage. They will be posted on Student Activities' social media platforms as well.
