LWC Football 2020 Rewind By Kyle Jackson The 2020-21 season for the Lindsey Wilson football team was certainly one for the history books. From having their entire schedule delayed to the spring, to reaching heights the likes of which had never been seen before in program history. The Blue Raiders made their sixth appearance in the NAIA Football Championship Series, running the table en route to a visit to Grambling State University. In Louisiana, the eleven-year-old football program captured its first national championship by defeating No. 6 Northwestern (Iowa) 45-13. Along the way, Lindsey Wilson secured its third Mid-South Conference division title, as well as the 50th all-time victory at Blue Raider Stadium. The team also maintained its bragging rights in the famed "Battle of Highway 55," defeating Campbellsville (KY) 49-21. The 2020-21 season saw the Blue Raiders post their third-highest scoring average in program history at 46.3 points per game. Senior quarterback and Second Team All-American, Cameron Dukes led the way for Lindsey Wilson with 2,946 yards of total offense, including 2,555 yards through the air en route to 33 touchdowns. The Mid-South Bluegrass Division Offensive Player of the Year completed 66.0 percent of his passes during the season, a new Lindsey Wilson single-season record. Dukes threw touchdown passes to ten different receivers, including Terrill Cole Jr., who hauled in 13 scores and 850 receiving yards. Additionally, Joshua Lewis tallied eight trips to the endzone, racking up 591 yards through the air in the process. On the ground, Jaylen Boyd became the program's all-time leader in rushing yards, compiling 685 yards and eight touchdowns on the season to push him to the top of the list with 2,441 career rushing yards. Lindsey Wilson finished the season with an NAIA second-best 51.1 percent efficiency on third-down conversions, while posting a third-best 80.6 percent proficiency on fourth downs. On the other side of the ball, Lindsey Wilson held its opponents to 14.4 points per outing, the lowest scoring average allowed in program history. The Blue Raiders also tied an all-time high with 33.5 sacks, ranking number five in the country. Defensively, the Blue Raiders limited their opposition to just 19.4 percent on fourth-down conversion attempts, the second-lowest mark in Division I. Head coach Chris Oliver also received national attention for his efforts throughout the season, claiming his sixth AFCA regional coach of the year honor, as well as being named the AFCA-NAIA National Coach of the Year.
