Board of Education accepting applications for vacant seat

The Adair County Board of Education is now seeking applications for appointment to fill the vacancy on the Board representing District 3, after Lisa Burton's retirement. This appointment will be effective until the November 2022 regular election.

Dr. Pamela A. Stephens, Superintendent says, "We will interview as we receive applications. We plan to appoint and have new board member sworn in at the July 22, 2021 board meeting."

Responsibilities of board members include: setting policy to govern the District; hiring/evaluating the Superintendent, and levying taxes and adopting the District budget.

Board members are required to:


  • Be at least 24 years old and a Kentucky citizen for the last three years
  • Be a registered voter in the particular District of the vacancy
  • Have completed the 12th grade or have a GED certificate
  • Meet all other legal qualifications (KRS 160.180); and
  • Complete required annual in-service training
Applications are available at Adair County Board of Education, 1204 Greensburg St, Columbia, KY or online at www.adair.kyschools.us.

Troy Grider and Terry Harvey are elected leaders

Adair County Board of Education members elected a new chair, Troy Grider, who will replace Lisa Burton, and kept the same vice chair, Terry Harvey, at the special called meeting July 6th. These leaders will serve through the end of 2021. From left are: Troy Grider, Dana King, Superintendent Pamela Stephens, Terry Harvey and David Karnes.
