Fiscal Court report from Judge Executive Gale Cowan

By Gale B. Cowan, Adair County Judge Executive

The Adair County Fiscal Court met in regular session on Tuesday afternoon.

Since we made our fiscal court meetings back open to the public we had been meeting at the Jim Blair Recreation Center to allow for social distancing. Beginning in July, our meeting will go back to our normal meeting place and times. Adair County Annex Building Basement, 2nd Tuesday of each month at 6pm and the last Tuesday of each month at 4.

The Adair County Fiscal Court is looking at building our own transfer station.

The current location on L. Willis road is leased to the county. The current lease is a 10 year lease and we are 5 years into this lease agreement. The past 5 years we have paid $12,000 per year and the next 5 years is $15,000 per year. The last time the lease agreement was renewed, the price of the lease payments doubled. We don't want to keep doing that will county tax payer dollars. We are looking into building on property the county already owns off of Campbellsville Road. We feel we can take the money we are paying on the lease to pay for a new building and then when it's paid off, we will own the building and not have the lease payment each year.

We had second and final reading of our 2021-2022 Fiscal Year Budget. The budget total of all funds is $10,644,499.97. This includes $3,724,110.00 in ARPA Funds. As usual, this budget is extremely tight. Anyone who wishes to view the budget is welcome to come to the Judge's Office to view or obtain a copy of the budget.

We are still having issues at the Jim Blair Community Center property. We have been having trouble with people driving around the cable barrier and driving vehicles onto the new basketball courts. Cameras were viewed last night at approximately 10:30 and noticed cars on the court. The fiscal court voted tonight to have park hours from 5am to 10pm.
